New Minister Housing & Planning

17th July 2016

Gavin Barwell has been appointed today as the new minister for housing, planning and London.

He replaces Brandon Lewis who has moved to the position of minister of state for policing and the fire service.

The MP for Croydon Central has previously been a senior government Whip and held PPS roles in the DCLG and under Michael Gove when he was education secretary.

The new minister took to Twitter saying he was: "Looking forward to working with councils, housing associations, developers and investors to ensure we build the homes people need and deserve.

He also embraced the new aspect to the role – London – when he added: "And to working with the Mayor of London to ensure the continued success of our wonderful diverse capital - and that all Londoners share in it."

He will join the team at DCLG under new communities secretary Sajid Javid.
